I want to share my personal journey with tarot and how it has transformed my life. I initially turned to tarot for guidance and clarity during a challenging time. I want to talk about how it became a powerful tool for self-reflection and self-expression. To explain the importance of building a personal connection with the cards and how they can help us understand ourselves and navigate life’s ups and downs.
In 2017, my life felt like a never-ending cycle of stress and emptiness. Up until that point in time I had always dabbled with magical things like the tarot, taking all sorts of personality quizzes and profiles and diving only Sun sign deep into astrology, which if you know anything about astrology, you know it is much much deeper than just knowing your sun sign.
Living this way, surface deep, I found I was unable to understand and overcome my struggles until an unexpected turn of events led me down the rabbit hole of the mystical world of tarot. What began as a mere curiosity quickly transformed into a life-changing journey. Tarot became the medium through which I found the courage to take control of my life.
I was facing a dark night of the soul. I constantly had a feeling of emptiness within me that nothing in my life seemed capable enough to fill. My depression and insomnia compounded one another, and every day felt like a battle. I spent more than half of 2017 awake, sleeping 3-4 hours a night if that. Everything seemed meaningless, and I was on the verge of finding meaninglessness to be a permanent state of existence. But then, I discovered tarot, and it all changed.
This dark night of the soul experience led me to seek solace in something more profound than what I had been living up until that point. I cannot recall what pushed me towards tarot. Maybe it was my intuition, or maybe it was the universe’s way of moving me towards the healing that I desperately needed. Whatever the reason may have been, I went all in and bought several tarot decks. I joined some Facebook tarot groups and started practicing tarot readings. As I started interacting more with the tarot community, my confidence started growing.
Tarot became my way of understanding myself and making my life better. I found that through the symbolism of tarot cards, I was able to identify and address my inner conflicts, which I had otherwise ignored. Through tarot, I was able to read myself in a way that no one else had ever been able to do. Each reading helped me better understand myself and overcome my struggles. I was able to restore my emotional balance and gain the clarity to make better decisions.
Since then, tarot has been a part of my daily life and my journey towards self-discovery. Whenever I am struggling with a decision or feeling lost, I turn to tarot. It has become my way of connecting with the universe and my inner self. Each reading helps me bring clarity to my mind, heart, and soul.
My journey with tarot has been transformative. Tarot has a way of shining a light on the darkness within our lives and providing us with the clarity and support we need to move forward. Tarot has helped me heal, gain confidence, and find direction in my life. I would suggest to anyone struggling with their life to give tarot a try. It may just be the transformative experience that you need. Trust me when I say, tarot has the power to help you take control of your life.
Tarot as a Self-Help Counseling Practice
At first, my approach to tarot was focused on myself. I wanted to learn more about my own life, my struggles, and my future. I was never someone who shared my emotions and personal life with others, but with Tarot, I found a way to speak to myself and express my innermost thoughts and feelings. It became a kind of counseling for me, a way to witness my own journey. I felt a sense of empowerment and understanding that I had never experienced before.
One of the most significant benefits of Tarot as a counseling tool is its objectivity. Unlike talking to a friend or therapist, Tarot doesn’t have any preconceived ideas or judgments about the situation. It’s a neutral observer, reflecting back to you what you need to see. I found that seeing my issues reflected back to me in the cards allowed me to find new perspectives and insights that I wouldn’t have gained on my own.
Through my journey, I discovered that tarot is not just about memorizing the meanings of the cards but building a personal relationship with each one. The symbolism in the cards can have so many interpretations that vary from deck to deck and even from person to person. By finding my own meanings, I discovered a deeper connection to the cards and myself.
Tarot also helped me overcome my fears. As I started to understand my journey better, I found that the fears I had been holding on to were limiting me. Tarot readings helped me realize that I was more capable than I had thought, and it encouraged me to take risks. I started stepping out of my comfort zone, and that’s when the magic started happening. Doors opened up for me, and I found myself on a path that was more aligned with who I truly was.
Today, I continue to use tarot as a tool for connection, reflection, and growth. It has given me a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me and has helped me develop my intuition and my ability to hold space for others. I feel privileged to be able to share this practice with others, and to offer guidance and support on their own journeys.
Using Tarot For Others
The more I used the cards, the more I realized that tarot was not just about me. It was a tool for connecting with others, for offering guidance and support. I saw the power of tarot in action as I helped friends and family gain new perspectives on their own lives.
However, I struggled with self-doubt and anxiety about my abilities as a tarot reader. I wanted to be accurate and clear in my readings, but my own fears and insecurities were holding me back. It wasn’t until I let go of my own expectations, my need to control the outcome, that I was able to truly connect with the cards. Instead of trying to force an answer, I learned to trust my intuition and allow the cards to guide me.
This shift in mindset was transformative. I no longer worried about making mistakes or saying the wrong thing. Instead, I focused on holding space for the people I was reading for, listening to their questions and concerns, and offering insight and guidance in a way that felt authentic and true to me. Every reading felt like a co-creation, a collaboration between the cards, my intuition, and the person seeking guidance.
Over time, I became more confident in my abilities, and my fear of “getting it wrong” faded away. I learned that there is no one right way to read tarot, and that the cards can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the context and the reader’s intuition. I also discovered that the cards have a way of revealing truths that may be difficult to see on our own, shining a light on areas of our lives that need attention or healing.
Tarot has also allowed me to connect with others on a deeper level. It has given me insights into people’s journey and helped me be more empathetic towards others. It has allowed me to understand that everyone has a journey, and it is important to respect and honor that journey. Tarot has helped me become more compassionate and caring towards others.
As I continued to practice and study, I started to develop my own unique tarot reading style. I added different layers of meaning and context from my own life experiences and attached them to the cards. This allowed me to give each reading a personal touch and helped me connect with my clients on a deeper level.
The biggest lesson that tarot has taught me is to trust my intuition. As a reader, I have to trust that the messages I’m receiving are true and accurate. This helped me to tune in more to my own intuition and trust my own inner guidance in all areas of my life.
Tips for Beginners
If you are new to tarot, it’s essential to keep an open mind. Give it a chance to work its magic. Tarot can help us gain new perspectives and tap into our intuition. Trusting the cards and the messages they provide can be a powerful tool for personal growth. So, don’t be afraid to take that leap of faith and embrace tarot.
Understand that your way of reading and your style of reading will change shape over and over again. Tarot reading is a continuous learning experience, and there’s no right or wrong way to read the cards. Every tarot reader has their style and way of interpreting the cards. As you continue to read, experiment with different spreads, styles, and decks until you find what works for you. Be open to learning and growing with your readings. I would suggest that you learn the overall and general meanings of the cards during your learning process. You do not have to overload your system and try to learn all the cards all at once. Start one by one, asking your questions and reading about the card as you receive them so that you gradually build your memory bank and storage.
I know it may be daunting, but I feel for beginners, it’s an excellent idea to start with several decks. Each tarot deck provides a different outlook on the cards. You can experiment with different decks and find one that resonates with you the most. Having multiple decks is one of the most powerful ways to enhance your tarot reading practice. If you start off with one deck and pull your cards, try laying them out and then grabbing the same cards from another deck to lay them out side by side. Doing this allows you to see how you can pick up different meanings from both of those cards that are the same yet different. It’s like watching a multi-petaled lotus flower bloom as the cards start to reveal more context, richness, and meaning. This exercise can deepen your understanding of the cards and provide new insights to your readings.
Another suggestion I have before diving into your readings, is to come into alignment with the energy you’re about to touch on. Setting an intention prior to your reading can help you connect with spirit and your intuition and bring clarity to your guidance. Take some time to do a ritual that feels right for you, whether it’s an hour or just 20 minutes or a 5 minute I’m going to do this intention. Create an intention for your reading and say it out loud to get into the right mindset. Be clear and specific about what you’re seeking, and this will help you receive the guidance you need.
Keeping a tarot journal can be an excellent way to track your progress and improve your practice too. Write down the cards you pulled and the meanings you interpreted for each of them. Record any insights, guidance, or feelings that arose during the reading. Make note of how your interpretations may have changed over time and how the readings have helped you grow as a person. By doing this, you’ll begin to notice patterns, themes, and connections in your readings, which can provide you with deeper insights.
And lastly and most importantly in my opinion is the recognition that visuals are an integral part of tarot. Take a moment to study the card’s image, colors, and expressions. For example, if a card features people, do they appear angry or happy? Are they sitting or standing? Do they look comfortable or anxious? Paying attention to these nuances can help shape the card’s meaning and interpretation. When interpreting multiple card pulls, it is essential to look at how they relate to each other too. For instance, do they form a coherent narrative or tell a story? Do they interact with one another in a way that adds to the overall impression you get from the reading? Every detail matters in tarot, even the sensations you might be feeling in your body or anything that you remember in the moment.
Final Thoughts
Tarot isn’t just a tool for predicting the future and it can be a lot more than just a deck of beautiful imagery. It’s a way to connect with your innermost self and come to a better understanding of your own life. It’s a way to assist others in their darkest hours of need. By taking the time to read and learn each tarot card, you will tap into the hidden depths of your subconscious and gain valuable insights into yourself and those around you. Remember that tarot is a continuous journey. Even if you feel like you have a solid understanding of the cards, your learning will never stop. The energy is always changing and moving. As you continue to read and learn, you will gain new insights and understandings. So, embrace the journey and enjoy the process and understand that you too can make the tarot make sense for you.
P.S. With Love
Everything that I talk about and speak about is for you to take with you and consider. If it offers you a different outlook on life, or further solidifies a belief that differs from my own, I will always consider that a win. I like to think about outcomes, probabilities, possibilities, and when I share I am offering you a way to see the world from my own lens. What you take or don’t take from my shares are your gifts to be had. Consider life, remember to choose, and decide to dream.
