Can dream interpretation be a valid method for self-growth?
My answer is absolutely yes, they can. I do not dream very often. I’ve asked for that specifically because I connect to the divine so much during my waking hours, and I get such clear messages that I would hate for them to be muddied by messages that I have to interpret within my dreams. So, for me, I leverage my own psychic abilities and clairvoyance to help me grow and evolve.
But for those of you who are just starting out on your spiritual journey, for those of you who have not fully developed your psychic gifts, dreams are a fabulous place to turn. As a matter of fact, it is often the first place that I tell people to watch after we do any kind of magickal, soul healing, or evolving work!
Of course, you may be wondering how: How do you use your dreams to help with your self-growth? Well, simply put, the very first thing is to start recording your dreams. This regular habitual practice helps many aspiring psychics, magicians, and witches begin to see patterns within their own dreams that often manifest themselves in the waking hours. This could be certain people showing up, certain feelings showing up, objects or situations.
Once you’ve been recording your dreams for roughly 30 days, you should be able to take a look back and see what has stuck out. (btw…I know some friends who are avid dream journalers and who have had dreams they wrote down 5 years ago come true in their waking life recently!)
Now, sometimes dreams are not going to be so blatant, and they might require an interpretation. One of my mentors, who is a huge fan of dream magick, loves to use a technique similar to the following to help interpret their dream. (I’ve watched them do this a few times and have written these instructions based upon how I have instructed others from that):
- On a piece of paper, draw two columns. Label one “the dream” and label the other “the interpretation.”
- In your “the dream” column, write your dream down as though they are steps or ‘scenes’ from a movie. Make sure to note things that you’ve seen, felt, or heard in the dream.
- In your “interpretation” column, try to rewrite each of the scenes as though you are explaining it to a 4-year-old who keeps asking “why” and “what does that mean?”
- Read your “interpretation” column outloud to yourself and see how the dream has changed shape.
I really love this approach because the more that I work with the divine, the more that I realize that there is literally a step in all divine messages where things have to be interpreted. As a psychic, in my waking hours I can do this and literally ‘create’ the interpretation map. But with dreams, you have to accept that it is your literal subconscious that is trying to speak to you, and it has a very different language from your own.
Once you’ve done those interpretations, it’s important to step back and ask yourself, “What is this telling me about my life and where I may go next?”
And THAT is how you use dream interpretation to help with your own growth.
